Windows 10 Screen Stretched Too Wide? Here’s How to Fix It

I have experienced the problem that Windows 10 screen is stretched and distorted recently and I know how frustrated it was. The icons becomes too big and blurry, the text is hard to read, and the images are out of proportion. It looks like someone pulled the edges of my screen and made it wider. And I’m not the only one who has this problem. I found out that many Windows 10 users have run into this issue. Luckily, there are some ways to solve it and get back the normal display settings. In this article, I will show you four methods that worked for me to fix my stretched screen on Windows PC.

Way 1: Modify display settings

Way 1: Modify display settings

Step 1: Right-click on an empty area of your desktop and select Display settings.

Step 2: Scroll to locate the the Scale and layout option and click on the drop-down menu under Display resolution.

Step 3: Choose the recommended resolution for your monitor and click Apply. Then Click Keep changes to save the settings.

You can also set the resolution below the recommended level to restore screen display.

Way 2: Roll back the graphics driver

If you have been unaware that Windows has updated your graphics driver, you can try rolling back to the previous driver version, which many users on the Microsoft forums have reported to be very effective.

Step 1: Press Windows + X and select Device Manager from the context menu.

Step 2: In the Device Manager window, expand the Display adapters category and right-click on your graphics card.

Step 3: Select Properties and go to the Driver tab.

Step 4: Click on Roll Back Driver, choose a reason why you want to do so and click Yes.

Step 5: Follow the on-screen instructions and wait until done.

Restart your computer and check if the screen is back to normal.

Way 3: Update the graphics driver

Way 4: Adjust monitor resolution

Step 1: Right-click on an empty area of your desktop and select Display settings.

Step 2: Under the Multiple displays section, click on Advanced display settings.

Step 3: Then click on Display adapter properties for Display.

Step 4: Select List All Modes under the Adapter tab.

Step 5: Choose a lower resolution and click OK then Apply. Your screen will temporarily turn black but it will get back to normal after a while.
