When computer shortcut keys stop working, it can be frustrating and disrupt your workflow. Several factors could contribute to this issue, ranging from software glitches to hardware problems. In this tutorial, we'll explore step-by-step procedures to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

Step 1: Check for Physical Issues

Before delving into software troubleshooting, it's crucial to ensure there are no physical issues with your keyboard. Check for any physical damage, loose keys, or foreign objects between the keys. If you're using a wired keyboard, ensure it's securely connected to the computer. For wireless keyboards, check the battery level and the connection with the receiver.

Step 2: Restart Your Computer

A simple restart can resolve many software-related issues, including problems with shortcut keys.

Save any open documents or projects to prevent data loss.

Click on the Windows Start menu, select the power icon, and choose "Restart."

Step 3: Check for Updates

Outdated software may lead to compatibility issues, including problems with shortcut keys. You can go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. Click "Check for updates" and install any available updates for the system.

Step 4: Update or Reinstall Keyboard Drivers

It is necessary to update your drivers, too. You can visit the official website of your keyboard's manufacturer to download and install the latest drivers, but it would be a bit difficult and time-consuming. So it is recommended to use Driver Talent to update your drivers. Corrupted or outdated keyboard drivers can cause shortcut key issues. You can use right-click on the Start button, select "Device Manager," locate the keyboard, right-click, and choose "Uninstall device", and use Driver Talent to install the proper keyboard driver.

(1)Download and install "Driver Talent", click "Scan".

If you encounter driver problems related to network cards, graphics cards, Bluetooth, sound cards and other drivers, you can always use Driver Talent for detection and repair, and it supports driver download, driver installation, driver backup, and so on.

Step 5: Test Shortcut Keys in Safe Mode

Booting your computer in Safe Mode helps determine if third-party applications are causing the issue. Restart your computer and press the F8 key repeatedly during startup. Choose "Safe Mode" from the advanced boot options. In Safe Mode, check if the shortcut keys work. If they do, it indicates a third-party software conflict.

Step 6: Check for Malware

Malware or viruses can interfere with system functions, including keyboard shortcuts. Perform a full system scan using reputable antivirus software. If any threats are detected, follow the antivirus software's instructions to remove them.

Step 7: Consult Manufacturer Support

If none of the above steps resolves the issue, consider reaching out to the manufacturer's support. They may provide specific guidance or recommend hardware diagnostics.

By following these comprehensive steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issues causing your computer shortcut keys not to work. If the problem persists, seeking assistance from technical support or forums specific to your hardware and software configuration is recommended.
