Global Website Outage Caused by Fastly’s Configuration

According to US media reports, since 6:00 EST, 8 June 2021, people from different places in the world received error messages when they visited some famous websites, including Amazon, The New York Times, Reddit, and the UK Government website.

Fastly, a cloud computing services provider in America, claimed on Twitter that it had already identified the service configuration triggering the disruptions across its POPs. This large-scale network outage lasted about an hour and affected a lot of countries around the world. After Fastly disabled the configuration, people were able to visit these websites again.

This global outage is one of the worst crashes in the history of Internet. After the incident, many investors realized that the Fastly had a pivotal influence on the Internet world, which caused the rise of this company’s share price on the same day.
